While the great weather may be telling a different story, the summer has quickly passed us by and maybe you or someone you know is well into the start of school. After an indulgent few months of beach trips, picnics and lazy days, it’s time to start packing lunches, checking homework, and attending PTA meetings. This can be a crazy time of year for both parents and children. Here are some helpful tips to smoothly transition your family back into the school year.
1. Attend your child’s Open House/Orientation. So many times parents try to get ahead of the game and complete school shopping before they know what the requirements are for the school year. Big mistake!!! School districts use the summer months to re-evaluate dress codes, supply lists and academic needs. Attend the Orientation and then do your shopping. You will save yourself a lot of headaches and money if you do!
2. Get physical! Schedule those yearly doctors’ appointments early. Make sure your children are in great shape, both physically and mentally, for the challenging school year ahead. And don’t forget about immunizations. Check with your school to make sure your child is up to date!
3. Get back on schedule. Your family enjoyed the freedom to eat, sleep and play all summer long. But, it’s time to get back on schedule for the school year. Start getting your family back to the normal schedule at least two weeks before school starts. That first week of school is hectic. An established schedule will make it much easier for everyone.
4. Shop away! Once you have attended the School Orientation take those lists and start shopping. The first day of school is all about making a great first impression. Check out your child’s favorite magazines to see what’s trending in school wear this year. Help them look their best!
